As you turn off the main coastal road near Tujereng, following a well-signed dirt road to Farakunku Lodges (approx 8 minutes), you will pass through rural Gambia with farmland, mixed woodland and traditional family compounds. Once you arrive, you'll find you've stumbled upon a delightful, small oasis of comfort.
The accommodation was completed in January 2009 and consists of four well-built, eco-friendly lodges which have been tastefully decorated and furnished with very comfortable four-poster beds. Electricity is supplied by solar power as is the ample supply of hot water. A plunge pool allows you to cool off in the pleasant, flowery gardens. The non-touristy beach, is approx 50 minutes walk away and there is a free transfer service by car.
You can stay at the Farakunku Lodges on bed & breakfast basis as part of your Discover the River itinerary, however, due to the remote location, we recommend you stay on half-board basis (supplement: £9 pppn). The food consists of a generous breakfast buffet and a delicious 3 course evening meal served in the open-air restaurant. Lunches can either be taken at the lodge or a packed lunch can be arranged if you're planning to be out and about. Your hosts - Heather and Moses - an Anglo/Gambian couple are great company and will do everything possible to ensure you have a memorable stay.
