Tiger fish (21lb) The Gambia has long been known by anglers as one of the world's finest sea fishing destinations, yet few serious fishermen have travelled as far inland as MacCarthy Island, so the fish there have been able to grow to their maximum potential. Proof of this is the 21lb tiger fish pictured here (World record 23lb), caught by one of the first groups of anglers to visit Bird Safari Camp.

Fresh-water fishing in The Gambia

You can travel up to Bird Safari Camp by boat and road - as per our Discover the River trips. Whilst at the camp you can hire our small boat with an expert local captain and try your luck at landing one of these impressive fish. A full day's boat charter on our 7m skiff (suggested maximum 2 - 3 anglers) costs £100. The price includes fishing tackle, bait, fuel and skipper.

Target fish include: Tiger Fish, Vundu Catfish, Sharptooth Catfish, Zambezi Pike, Characins, and Threadfin Salmon.

At the coast, a full day's boat charter for sea/creek fishing costs £150 (suggested maximum 2 - 3 anglers). This includes tackle, bait, fuel, skipper and vehicle transport to and from your coastal accommodation.

Target fish include: Barracuda, Cassava, Captain fish, Lady fish, Pompano, Trevally, Red Snapper, Guitar fish and Stingrays.

You can add on some days fishing (both at the coast and up-river) from within the "Customisation" section when you plan your fishing holiday to The Gambia.
